Chevy distributor cap corrosion?
I have a 97 Chevy Express Van that just started running real rough. I got a code P0300 (random cylinder misfire). The distributor cap contacts are corroded with a white powder coating and the tip of the rotor is green. The cap and rotor are only about 3 or 4 months old. What would cause this in such short time frame and is this a likely cause or the P0300 code?
I willing to bet you did not us AC Delco parts. The aftermarket stuff parts stores sell is junk. GM parts cost a little more but they last 3 or 4 times longer.
One other thing to look at is the bottom plate of the distributor. Look and see there should be one or two vent holes that have a metal screen on them. Make sure they are not stopped up. When stopped up, the inside of the cap will not breathe and it tends to suck up moisture.
